Bible Story Concepts For

TODDLERS
Learning Activities for the One-Year-Old

WHAT? You want me to do what? Teach a class of toddlers? You can't teach babies. Can you? Yes, you can. And it can be fun! Try it. Sit down on a low chair with some interesting toys or pictures. As the toddlers gather around your knee to see what you are doing, play some simple games with them. We call this the "catch 'em when you can" method. Don't try to have them all sit down "for a lesson." Toddlers like to be up and about. But as they find that it is fun to be with you and do what you do, more will come to your group. One teacher reported that as she showed animal pictures and did the answer-back game, Who made cats? God did, the children would jump up and down, clap, and give a cheer, "Yaaaaay!" This became their favorite game.

DESIGNED ESPECIALLY FOR THE ONE-YEAR-OLD:  Features twenty-four Bible Stories and simple Bible Activities. By taking two stories per month, this program will last one year. The children will typically come into your class at 12 months of age and graduate to the next class when they turn two years old. You can repeat the program year after year as the toddlers come and go, and though individual children come in and leave at different times, all will go through the complete cycle of lessons during the year they are with you.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED CAN BE PRINTED RIGHT FROM THE CD: Includes the following items.

24 STORY-ACTIVITY CARDS: Each card contains a simple Sentence Bible Story, a list of the Big Picture Cards needed to tell the story, and an Activity to fit the story theme. Activity cards put the directions for the teachers and helpers right at the point of use with the children. The secret for teaching toddlers is to enter their play. The activity cards will help you do this. As we often say here at Sunny Hollow Press, Teaching Is Whatever We Are Doing Right Now!

44 BIG PICTURE CARDS: Subject matter covers a toddler's favorite things from food to toys to animals to things we see outdoors and around the house. The activities and games you play with these pictures help focus the children's attention on the Bible Stories. They are a big 8.5" x 11" in size, one simple object per picture. Directions for using these pictures are on the Activity Cards

48 SMALL PICTURE SQUARES: These are used to make picture blocks from half-gallon cardboard milk and juice cartons. Easy and fun. Toddlers learn best when their teachers play with them, using hands-on activities. And what could be more hands-on than blocks? The pictures on the blocks give you the opportunity to talk about the Bible stories and about what you are doing. This helps the children put names to things. Building vocabulary is one of the toddler's most important jobs at this age.

PATTERNS: Use for suggested simple Handcraft Projects and Bulletin Board Displays. It's easy to make a copy for each child in your class.

PAGES FOR THE TEACHER'S GUIDE: This guide shows how to put it all together with tips for getting organized for teaching your toddlers, games, play centers, ideas for simple creative activities, and suggestions for using the Picture Cards, Picture Blocks, and Activity Cards. Instructions are given for setting up a notebook in which to keep these pages.

A LIST OF THE BIBLE STORIES: We suggest taking two stories each month. This will give you plenty of extra time for catch-up and repetition. When you come to a Holiday, stop and celebrate. Then continue on with the stories where you left off.

ABOUT BIBLE STORY CONCEPTS FOR TODDLERS: The Bible Story Concepts Curriculum on this CD is not a program for children to use as they sit at a computer. This is a curriculum which the teacher/parent prints out and uses with the children in hands-on and age-appropriate learning games and activities with lots of eye contact and conversation.

BIBLE-BASED PRESCHOOL LEARNING: Contains a unique blend of spiritual concepts and preschool skills. God has put everything we need for teaching toddlers right in the Bible stories! It's Bible-based, educational, and easy to do. But, best of all, it's fun!

FLEXIBLE: Great for both Classroom Teachers and Homeschooling Families. Print out copies of the teaching guide, lesson plans, activity cards, visuals, games, etc, for each teacher, as needed.
