SEWING CARDS

Good for eye/hand coordination and small muscle development. A great pre-writing exercise. Working together with sewing cards provides excellent opportunities for conversational teaching.

A Classroom Story : How A New Game Was Born

One day while doing the story of Jesus And Zacchaeus, the teacher put out the following sewing cards: Tree, Bird, Cat, Apple, Pig, Boat, Fish, and Elephant. The tree reminded them of the time Zacchaeus was up in a tree and so the teacher decided to take advantage of it. She knew that fours and fives love jokes. But they must be simple. So she started a conversation which was very simple, but turned out to be lots of fun. She held up the bird and asked, "Would you ever see a bird in a tree?" Everybody has seen birds in trees so the answer was a resounding yes! She continued with the cat and the apple. The children agreed that these are all things we see in trees. Then she held up the pig. "Would you ever see a pig in a tree?" No! (Giggle, giggle, giggle). "An elephant?" No! "A boat?" No! This was enough to get the children started on their own outrageous questions and a good time was had by all. And in the process, the children were practicing their reasoning and thinking skills and didn't even know it!

THE SEWING CARDS

These cards are printed in bright colors on heavy cardstock and laminated with 10 mil plastic to make them sturdy and easy to manage. Won't bend or tear! Fingerprints wipe off easily with a damp cloth.

They are approximately 8" x 8" in size and cut in a free-form shape. A 40" boot lace, stiffened at each end, completes the set.

Single Cards: Choose from among fourteen  designs: Cat, Dog, Bunny, Lamb, Pig, Elephant, Fish, Bird, Apple, Bananas, Grapes, Pumpkin, Tree, and Sailboat. 

For Christmas: We have a set of two cards - Baby Jesus in the manger and a Shepherd with his sheep
