EVERYTHING WE NEED: God has put everything we need for teaching preschoolers right in the Bible Stories! Spiritual, Physical, Emotional, Social, and Educational. They are all in there, waiting to be discovered and discussed.
YOUNG CHILDREN ARE WONDERFULLY MADE: Wonderfully made to move and explore, bounce and giggle, poke and wiggle, to wonder about things and ask questions! Grown-ups call this "getting into everything." But we have put it all together, and we call it learning!
HANDS-ON IS BEST: Formal lessons are not necessary (nor are they desirable) at the preschool level. The Bible Story Concepts and One Bible Story At A Time lessons are a unique blend of Bible Concepts and Preschool Skills (color, shape, size, counting, words & letter, etc) which take advantage of the young child's interest in learning through hands-on play.
PRESCHOOLERS LEARN BEST WHEN YOU PLAY WITH THEM: They enjoy matching & sorting, putting in & taking out, hiding & finding, taking apart & putting back together again, asking questions, repetition, and other manipulative activities and games. Teachers and Parents can use all this interest to bring out Bible story concepts and words. Talk about how Jesus helped the fishermen, for instance, while playing a fishing game. Do some counting. "How many fish did we catch? Let's count them! How many fish did Jesus help the fishermen catch? One hundred and fifty three!" Or recall the story of Noah's Ark while matching pairs of animal pictures.
TEACHING IS ALL THE TIME: We are teaching all of the time and preschoolers are learning all of the time whether we know it or not! We could say it this way. (You might want to print the following words on a banner to display on the wall).

Teaching/Learning Is Whatever We Are Doing Right Now! |
MAKE THE MOST OF THIS TIME: How can we be sure we are making the most of this teaching/learning time? By providing conversation, objects, and experiences which are full of learning possibilities and appropriate for the preschool years. Place them into your children's environment to be discovered. Then be ready to play with them and talk, talk, talk about what you are doing! This helps them put names to the things around them. We call this vocabulary-building and this is one of the biggest jobs preschoolers have at this stage of development.
And here at Sunny Hollow Press
we feel that our job is to
help you make the most of this teaching/learning time!
